Mikel Arteta looks set to welcome a third major signing to Arsenal imminently as he continues to ramp up the pressure on Manchester City following last season's title race.
City were crowned Premier League champions for a third straight season but spent much of the campaign behind the Gunners. However squad depth at the Etihad ultimately prevailed as Pep Guardiola's side enjoyed a relentless run of 12 straight league victories to claim the trophy.
But rather than look back at an opportunity missed, Arteta has kicked on with a summer of massive and decisive investment. Kai Havertz and Jurrien Timber have already arrived at the Emirates for a combined £100million, with the imminent arrival of Declan Rice set to double that spend.
West Ham United confirmed on Saturday morning that their captain was to leave following the agreement of a 'British record transfer fee'. Although no buying club was named, it is widely believed to be Arsenal, with the 24-year-old set on joining Arteta in north London.

It has been a very busy first five weeks of the window for Arsenal as Arteta looks to build the squad depth needed to push City all the way and send an early warning to Guardiola.
