Match of the Day pundits Alan Shearer and Danny Murphy were both in agreement over the two controversial VAR moments in Manchester City’s draw with Southampton.
Pep Guardiola’s side saw their 12-game winning run come to an end on Saturday as they were help by the Saints at St Mary’s, having had to fight back following Kyle Walker-Peters’ early goal.
City and their fans though were left aggrieved when a couple of contentious decisions went against them, with VAR not coming to their rescue.
The visitors had their calls for a penalty turned down when Kevin De Bruyne went down under the challenges of Mohammed Salisu and Oriol Romeu as he entered the penalty area.

Despite looking at the incident for a long time, Simon Hooper’s decision not to award a spot-kick was not overturned, with questions over whether the foul occurred inside or outside the box.
Later, VAR was called into action again when Stuart Armstrong left his boot in on the thigh of Aymeric Laporte.
The Southampton forward was shown a yellow card, which wasn’t upgraded to red after the review, despite Laporte showing off the nasty gash left by Armstrong on social media afterwards.
Shearer and Murphy though were in agreement with the decisions made by VAR, feeling there was not enough evidence to overturn the original calls.
