The Merseyside club are currently nine points behind leaders Man City in the Premier League but Jurgen Klopp's men do have a game in hand over Pep Guardiola's side.
Speaking about Reds defender Trent Alexander-Arnold on BT Sport, Ferdinand said: "You have egos and he’s had hands on that trophy, he’s won the Champions League - he wants to feel that feeling again.
"They’re behind at the moment, they’re not going to say they’re going to give up but they know it’s going to take a huge fall from grace from Man City to have a chance of winning the league.
"I just don’t see that happening for me."
Ferdinand went on to compare Alexander-Arnold with two current City players.
"He’s (Alexander-Arnold) a fabulous player," the 43-year-old added.
"With (Joao) Cancelo in the league, he’s the most productive full-back around, if not Europe, with the way he strikes a ball.
"You look at Steven Gerrard who was here years ago, Kevin De Bruyne who is still playing now - the way he strikes a ball, he is in that league in terms of the beauty of which he hits a ball."
