The death is not currently being treated as suspicious. A spokesperson for South Manchester Coroners' Court confirmed the coroner had received information in relation to Mr Lowndes' death. An inquest will be opened at a later date 'if necessary', the spokesperson added.
A police cordon was in place around the bus station for several hours on Saturday as investigations were carried out. A bus driver who entered the station as the cordon was put up said they were told a colleague of theirs had rushed to give the man CPR.
Speaking to the M.E.N he said: "I pulled in when it was all cordoned off around 6am, but I've been told this morning a bus driver tried to give him CPR when he found him. We don't know the age of the man, but he keeled over outside the bus and the driver went to help him.
"He said that while he was doing it (CPR) he could tell that the man was too far gone. Police came soon as after and ambulance took him away."
A spokesperson for GMP said: "A man was found dead near the bus station. He is believed to have suffered a medical episode, the spokesperson added. Officers were initially called to reports of a concern for welfare.
"There are not believe to be any suspicious circumstances."
