Kevin De Bruyne could be out until February 2024, Pep Guardiola says, as he admitted that Manchester City's transfer plans have been altered by the Belgian's long-term injury.
Guardiola had this week said De Bruyne would be out for three to four months, before saying that lay-off was in fact four to five months in his press conference on Friday. Now, he has referred to De Bruyne being absent until February, suggesting he could miss six months of the season.
However, while City are open to signing a new midfielder or forward in response to De Bruyne's injury, Guardiola insists that the Blues will not pay over the odds for a player and will walk away from prospective deals if the price isn't right.
City have an interest in Lucas Paqueta, but reports on Friday suggested the chances of that deal going ahead had plummeted, and that was before it emerged he is the subject of a betting investigation. Guardiola refused to answer questions on the West Ham man in his press conference, instead back his current squad to cover De Bruyne's absence if a new signing doesn't arrive.

“We are talking a lot with Txiki [Begiristain] about what we have to do and we maybe need to add someone else. My opinion is I like a small squad. But the blow from Kevin changes the perspective.
"He is a very important player and it is not one or two weeks. It's four or five months, he's 32 years old and he needs to be physical because of the way he plays physically. So we have to reflect a bit on the squad, and think about what we have to do but we have to control but we are not the only ones spending a lot of money in the last few years.
