Newcastle United defender Kieran Trippier praised the 'fantastic' Phil Foden but admitted his side gave the Manchester City star too much space during Saturday's 1-0 defeat.

A consistent threat, Foden often found space on the half-turn between Newcastle's defence and midfield, turning and driving forward with the ball before picking the right pass. And while Trippier heaped praise on his opponent, the Magpies full-back acknowledged that his side made life easy.

"There’s a lot to work on but Man City are one of the best teams in Europe for a reason. We came here to compete and this is the level we want to be at."
Newcastle did come back into the game after keeping the score at 1-0 going into half-time. Eddie Howe brought on extra pace in Callum Wilson and Harvey Barnes, with the former unable to turn a promising opening into a clear-cut chance.
