Manchester City are said to be looking to table a second bid for Wolves midfielder Matheus Nunes after seeing an initial £47m rejected.
Wolves boss Gary O’Neil confirmed that his club had turned down the offer from City, who are looking for midfield reinforcements amid Kevin De Bruyne’s absence. Nunes did not play for Wolves in the win over Everton due to suspension.
O’Neil believes Nunes is not distracted by interest from City, although that theory could be tested further with Sky Sports reporting that City are due to go back in with a revised bid. Wolves are reportedly holding out for £60m having signed him for £42m last year.
Pep Guardiola is a long-time admirer of Nunes, who he described as “one of the best players in the world” after his display for Sporting Lisbon against City in February 2022. Reports elsewhere claim Nunes has told Wolves that he wants to leave for City.

Meanwhile, Sheffield United are eager to regain the services of Blues youngster James McAtee before Friday's deadline, according to The Sun. The 20-year-old helped the Blades to Premier League promotion last season, recording nine goals and four assists in 43 outings.
McAtee featured for City on their pre-season tour of Asia and scored against Bayern Munich in Japan. The midfielder made his seventh senior appearance for the Blues with a late cameo during the opening night win over Burnley.
He has failed to feature since, though, and Sheffield United - whom City beat 2-1 on Sunday - could come calling once more, albeit his club are unsure about loaning him out to a side expected to struggle this season.
