Manchester City failed with a £60million deadline-day bid for Crystal Palace midfielder Eberechi Eze, according to reports.
City had a very busy day on Friday as they finalised plans for the 2023/2024 campaign. The Blues signed Matheus Nunes in a £53m deal from Wolves and let several young players head out on loan.
But the major shock of the day came with Cole Palmer joining Chelsea, who made a late offer of £42.5m that couldn't be refused. City were not expecting to lose the 21-year-old permanently, and according to the Mirror, were working late into the evening to try and replace him with Eze.
Pep Guardiola's side were interested in the Palace star around the same time they went for Nunes, but seemed to have cooled interest upon agreeing a deal for the Portuguese midfielder. However they reportedly returned with a £60m bid that was knocked back, with the Eagles holding out for £80m given the offer came so late in the window.

Elsewhere, the Daily Star reports that City are set to offer Erling Haaland a massive new contract that will see the Norwegian almost double his wages. Haaland signed a five-year deal worth a basic £375,000-a-week when he arrived from Borussia Dortmund for £51m last summer.
He has repaid huge swathes of that sum with an outstanding 52 goals in all competitions last season as his side won the treble. And now City are said to be readying a mega proposal worth £600,000-per-week.
Their decision is thought to be based around interest in the striker's services. Real Madrid are long-time admirers and may get tired of waiting for Kylian Mbappe, while the ever-growing threat of offers from Saudi Arabia clubs remains.
