Laila Morse, who plays the character 'Big Mo' Harris in EastEnders, is set to return to the show. The 78-year-old actress has been a key part of the BBC One soap since 2000, playing the fiery head of the Slater family until she left Albert Square in 2021.
She's made a few comebacks over the years, and originally left to join her love interest Fat Elvis on a cruise ship. Now, 'Big Mo' is back with her great-grandson Freddie Slater (Bobby Brazier), son of Graham Foster and Maureen "Little Mo" Slater.
Freddie had briefly left the square last year. Laila expressed her excitement about returning to the show, saying: "I'm delighted to be coming home to Walford to bring Mo back to life. EastEnders holds such a special place in my heart, and I can't wait to be reunited with my on-screen family, who are like my family, as well as old and new faces."
The last time we saw her on screen was in 2022, at Phil Mitchell and Kat Slater's first attempted wedding. Known for her scheming ways, some of her past storylines include a long feud with Pat Butcher, helping Sonia Fowler give birth to Rebecca "Bex" Fowler on Dot Branning's sofa, and pretending that Kat had died to make some quick cash.
Chris Clenshaw, EastEnders executive producer, said the show was "absolutely delighted" to have Morse back. "Although her time away from the Square has been short-lived, the Slater family has endured a huge amount of drama since she last appeared on screen and Mo's return will be no different," he added.
"We're delighted to welcome Laila back permanently as she is thrust into the heart of the drama alongside great-grandson Freddie."
There is no indication of why the characters are returning but the soap teased "where Mo goes, trouble inevitably follows".

Jimmy Kimmel is hosting the Oscars this year for the fourth time. Other than Bob Hope (19 times), Billy Crystal (nine) and Johnny Carson (five), no solo host has done it more. (Whoopi did it 4 times as well.) But it is a good bet that among those hosts, no one has seen as many of the nominated films. Kimmel is a self-described movie fan, and as I learned from our conversation he not only spends weeks, months even, prepping his monologue, but he also might be one of the few in the room at the Dolby Theater who actually has seen everything. And I mean everything.
