With Valentine’s Day now just around the corner, romance fans were gifted a very special treat this week, when Netflix tear-jerker One Day finally hit our screens. The emotional mini-series is based on David Nicholl’s novel of the same name and is split across 14 episodes as it follows the intersecting lives of two friends Emma Morley and Dexter Mayhew, that meet and fall in love during their university graduation.
Following that first fateful meeting, the couple go their separate ways, yet pledge to reunite on the same day every year to see how their lives have changed. It’s those meetings that the series documents, with each episode taking place one year after the first chance meeting on 15 July 1988.
Among the notable names in the cast are show leads Ambika Mod and Leo Woodall, alongside acting heavy weights Joely Richardson, Toby Stephens and Eleanor Tomlinson. One Day will mark Eleanor’s second high profile drama in recent months following on from the success of her six-part romantic thriller series The Couple Next Door, which began airing on Channel 4 last December.
Here, we take a closer look at the star’s impressive life off screen - including who she plays in One Day… Early Life & Famous Family Eleanor Tomlinson was born in London on 19 May 1992, but despite starting her life in the capital, primarily grew up in the East Riding of Yorkshire, after her family moved to Beverely when she was still a child. While here, Eleanor attended Beverley High School and discovered a keen love of performing - which is perhaps unsurprising considering her whole family have been involved in show business throughout her life.
