For a time, Peter Fury was a major player in Stockport's underworld. He was said to have faced down the town's one-time Mr Big, the even more notorious Chris Little.
A racketeer involved in wholesale drug importation from the continent, Fury was also a feared enforcer who would travel around Europe collecting huge debts on behalf of his clients. Most people will know him, however, as the boxing trainer who would go on to train his nephew Tyson to become the heavyweight champion of the world.

Now aged 55 and a father himself who leans increasingly on his faith, he wishes he'd gone down another path, away from the crime that blighted his youth. Away from an underworld where - these days - he says villains are far too quick to use knives or guns instead of fists and won't think twice about betraying another.

By his mid-20s, he was smuggling vast amounts of amphetamine from Belgium, which he transferred to an industrial unit in Helmshore, Rossendale, where it was prepared for distribution. In 1994 he was spotted collecting a rucksack in a remote lay-by. It held 10kg of speed worth £1.5m. Another 2kg was found in an accomplice's Land Rover. In 1995 the case came to court.
