The owners of Altrincham Market are among those who have both been honoured with with MBEs in the King's New Years Honours list.
Partners Nick Johnson MBE and Jenny Thompson MBE, owners of Altrincham Market, Mackie Mayor in Manchester and the Picturedrome in Macclesfield, kickstarted the food hall trend which has led to huge success across each venue. Both have been dedicated to the transformation of each project whilst encouraging the use of independent businesses and new talent.
On both being recognised in this year's Honours with an MBE, Nick, 57, said: “It was difficult to believe. There is a massive sense of recognition for what we set out to achieve 10 years ago. We have tried to balance the need to be successful in business and assist other independent enterprises to success by delivering a really different approach to community and involving the community in the operation.

“Given my background before this, it was all about regeneration and transformation and change. We were trying to achieve reinvigorating places and bringing about transformative change whilst working with people to deliver that.”
He said both Jenny, 58, and himself are delighted but overwhelmed to be recognised, adding that other people are to be credited too for their contribution.
“We are just the tip of the iceberg. The recognition is for them too - it’s hard work,” he said.
