Alan Shearer said he almost dozed off during Manchester City’s 1-0 defeat to Arsenal such was the poor quality on show.
A first defeat to the Gunners in 13 top-flight games piled more misery onto Pep Guardiola, who has now tasted defeat in his last three domestic fixtures. Viewed pre-match as the game of the weekend, the game failed to live up to the hype.
City managed just one shot on target - and four attempts in total - before Arsenal's Gabriel Martinelli broke the deadlock on 86 minutes to snatch all three points and fire the Gunners to the top of the Premier League. But neither side could escape criticism from the pundits following an anticlimactic affair in North London. Indeed former England captain Shearer admitted he almost fell asleep on his sofa.

“Honestly, I had to get up off the settee because I could feel myself nodding off,” he told The Rest Is Football podcast. “I had to stand up before I fell asleep - the game was that bad. But give credit to (Mikel) Arteta because all of his substitutions played a part in the goal.
“The pass, the header, and obviously the header. You want your substitutions to affect the game but I just thought both teams would play out the draw and both be happy with a point. But they got that little bit of luck that Mikel would say they deserved. I thought Manchester City were really poor. I think they had one shot on target and that’s it.”
