House prices might be slowing down across the UK, but unfortunately for tenants, rents are still on the rise. According to the Office for National Statistics (ONS), house prices are now only a “little changed” from a year earlier, but rent costs have seen another 'record rise'.
A recent ONS report says that private rental prices have now risen by 5.7 percent across the UK in the last 12 months up until September. This represents the biggest annual percentage change since records started in January 2016.

Trafford is the most expensive borough to buy a house, and rent prices aren't cheap here either. The average monthly cost to rent across the area is now £1,089.
Rent prices in Salford are also unaffordable, with the standard costs for tenants wanting to rent in the borough now at £1,003 a month.
The fourth most expensive borough for renting is Stockport, with an average monthly price of £957 today.
