Fire crews, police, gas and electricity teams descended on a major road in Middleton after a car ploughed into a hedge. The car reportedly hit a lamppost on Grimshaw Lane in Middleton, before careering into a rose garden on Newbank Close on Sunday afternoon, December 31.
Officers from Greater Manchester Police and crews from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service quickly cordoned off the area and cleared the scene.
The resident who lived in the house where was garden was damaged, said they heard a ‘loud bang’ at around 1.30pm. She said there were three people in the car, before they ‘ran off’.

The woman, who did not wish to be named, added that the collision destroyed their fence and damaged their rose garden at the front of the property.
Another resident said that the vehicle was travelling at around 80mph before the collision, in which it crashed through a fence and knocked down a lamppost.
Pictures from the scene showed a black BMW 3 series trapped inside a large hence. Debris, including a broken road sign was scattered across the pavement and glass covered the road.
Cllr Dylan Williams, for East Middleton, said residents helped clean up the debris whilst emergency services tried to remove the car. It was eventually dislodged from the hedge by a crane.
Cllr Williams, said: “The residents, even though they’ve had their property damaged, have been brilliant. They’ve been out offering people brews and they've really shown community.
“The residents swept most of the glass off the street and the debris. I can’t praise the local community enough. It really goes to show there is a strong community here in Middleton junction.”
