It's almost impossible to think of a TV show has been going for over 60-years, like Coronation Street. The longest running soap in the world, it first blipped onto our black and white TV screens in 1960.
Over that time the show has seen over 6,000 characters come and go, according to soap's Wiki fan page. Currently the long-running drama has over 70 regular characters, with Ken Barlow the only character still there since the very first episode, always played by actor William Roache.
With the show having been on our screens so long, generations of us have grown up with its characters. For many Corrie fans, they can chart their own lives watching the ITV soap against the on-screen dramas of the show's long-running character's .
And while many of the actors came to their roles as adults, some have grown up alongside their on-screen roles. So to celebrate some of the show's long-serving characters, we've taken a look at how they first appeared when they first stepped on those famous cobbles.
The longest serving member of the Corrie cast, William Roache has starred on the ITV soap for more than 60-years. Appearing in the very first episode as Ken Barlow on December 9, 1960, its fair to say the actor's appearance has changed.
Aged just 28 when he started on the soap, in 2022, the actor celebrated his 90th birthday. He holds the Guinness World Record for being the longest-running TV soap star but the living legend of Coronation Street said after his milestone birthday last year that he had no intention to retire any time soon.
Another veteran of the ITV soap, Tina O'Brien celebrated her 40th birthday in 2023, much to the disbelief of Corrie fans. Tina is famed for playing Sarah Barlow - nee Platt - on the soap since 1999.
