The actor who played Tommy Duckworth in Coronation Street, Chris Fountain, has shared an emotional message after the passing of his grandad. Sharing a beautiful black-and-white photo on Instagram, he wrote: "Goodnight old pal." Chris, also known for his appearance on Dancing On Ice in 2008, had earlier referred to his grandad as his "best pal".
This sad news follows a challenging year for Chris, who was hospitalised due to a stroke last year at only 35 years old.
In a candid talk about his ordeal, Chris expressed: "I've been in some very dark, horrible places, to the point where I realised I needed to start changing the way that I was thinking otherwise I might not have been here." He continued: "My life, my job, my image, my reputation everything was just ripped away. Within 24 hours.
I didn't leave my house for four days." Chris' dark days are thought to include his sacking from Coronation Street, which occurred after a video surfaced in which he rapped about rape. In 2013, an ITV spokesman said the actor's contract had been terminated "as a result of the unacceptable comments he made in a number of online clips”.
Admitting the effect it had on him, as reported by Birmingham Live, the former Hollyoaks actor known for his role of Justin Burton, added: "I'd never been this discombobulated before. I was meant to go on This Morning, and then that got cancelled because they didn't want me on there." "After a while, I was like, 'I think I'm going through depression here'." He went on to say: "I can't condone anything that I said.
