Simon Gregson is one of Coronation Street’s longest running actors. He portrays Steve McDonald - who is infamous for his love of weddings and short-term marriages. However, in real life, he enjoys a loving marriage with his wife, Emma Gleave.
Born on 2 October 1974 in Wythenshawe, Greater Manchester, Simon joined the cast of Coronation Street in 1989 while studying at The Kingsway School, Stockport. He was chosen to play Steve McDonald due to his similar appearance to fellow student Nicholas Cochrane, who was cast as Andy McDonald. Initially credited under his real name, Simon Gregory, he later adopted his stage name when he joined performing arts and entertainment trade union Equity, as there was already a member with his real name.
His first appearance on the ITV soap was on 6 December 1989, making him one of the longest-serving actors on the show. Simon took a short break from the show in September 2015 due to personal reasons, but made a comeback the following year. Simon is happily married to wife Emma.
The couple said their 'I dos' in November 2010 at St Bartholomew's church in Wilmslow, surrounded by loved ones.
Simon's co-star and good mate Craig Charles, who played Lloyd Mullaney on Corrie from 2005 to 2015, was his best man. The pair are proud parents to three children - Alfie (born August 2007), Harry (born July 2009) and Henry Teddy (born January 2016). Simon and his family reside in a cosy, traditional home in Greater Manchester.
Their kitchen is a hub of activity with cream cabinets, wooden countertops and colourful appliances including a red microwave, white dishwasher and black coffee maker.
