Coronation Street is set for explosive scenes next week when dodgy business man, Rufus, is found dead and his body in a swimming pool. Fans will recall that only recently, Stephen Reid, who has already murdered Leo and Teddy Thompkins, tried to kill Rufus after he threatened to expose the fact he's been spiking Carla Connor - but he was interrupted by an innocent and oblivious Michael Bailey. However, in upcoming scenes, Rufus will meet his demise.
Next week, Stephen is pleased that the Gazette are going to do a piece on the Nippersnapper deal but is soon left angry when Rufus demands 50% of the profits instead of 25%. While an eager Michael is keen to join the meeting with Rufus, which Stephen attempts to keep him out as he sends him on various errands. However, later, Rufus meets Michael in the street and offers him a job in his London office, which Michael takes great delight in telling Stephen after he orders him around.
Later in the week, Michael arrives at the house to see Rufus but gets no reply to the doorbell. Hearing loud music from inside, Michael calls Rufus and leaves him a voicemail. And having failed to meet up with Rufus, Michael goes cap in hand to Stephen and asks if he can remain at Underworld - to which Stephen snaps, telling him he's too late and Nina is his new Head of Design.
After some advice from Ronnie, Michael decides to head back to Rufus’ house and do his best to smooth things over... However, upon arriving, Ronnie and Michael are stunned to find it swarming with police to which they learn from the housekeeper that Rufus is dead and she found his body in the swimming pool. Michael is left reeling in shock from the news and is further stunned when Stephen takes him back on as junior manager
