Maureen Lipman has revealed 'jealousy' on the set of Coronation Street ahead of a new arrival's first appearance on-screen. It's fair to say that viewers of the ITV soap were left heartbroken this week as they watched Evelyn Plummer say a sad goodbye to her beloved dog, Cerberus.
The episode had previously seen Roy left apologising for missing Evelyn's birthday party and opened up to her about Carla Connor's recent problems which have seen her leave Weatherfield after fearing her psychosis returned, not knowing she is being drugged with LSD by Stephen Reid.
The pair chatted for a while before Evelyn decided to leave, calling Cerberus from behind the Roys Rolls counter. Later, at home with Fiz Stape, Evelyn appeared concerned when her beloved pooch showed no interest in his tea. And during Wednesday night's trip to the cobbles (March 22), she finally heeded her family's advice and whisked her pooch off to be checked out.

The vet had clear concern for the greyhound and later confirmed Cerberus was suffering from kidney failure. He told Evelyn that her companion was unlikely to improve due his age and the kindest thing would be to put him to sleep. Evelyn finally agreed to the devastating move and viewers watched as Tyrone said his goodbyes while Evelyn remained with Cerberus until the very end.
Corrie fans flocked to social media to comment on the emotional scenes, with some complaining it was 'too much' as they reflected on their own pet losses while others applauded the soap, and particularly Maureen and her four-legged co-star.
