Cold weather alert issued across UK as temperatures to plunge this weekend

Temperatures across the UK are set to plummet in the coming, sparking a warning from the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA).
The UKHSA issued a cold weather alert while the Met Office has said a cold snap will be brought to the UK due to high pressure building in the region.
Meanwhile, parts of Greater Manchester are expected to see temperatures as low as -1C, according to current Met Office forecasts. Boroughs such as Oldham and Rochdale will see temperatures at -1C this weekend, with surrounding areas staying close to 0C.

The UKHSA said: “A brisk easterly wind developing across the south over the weekend will make it feel much colder, with the added wind chill. Temperatures are likely to be a few degrees below average, across much of the UK, especially overnight, with more widespread frosts than of late.
“Ice is likely to be an issue for many given the very wet ground in most areas. It is probably this cold spell may last well into the following week.”
The warning comes into force at 9am on Saturday and expires at noon on January 12.
Speaking of the conditions this weekend across the north west, the Met Office said: "Pleasant start to the weekend with plenty of winter sunshine after mist patches clear. Winds remaining light but feeling rather cold with further frost overnight. Maximum temperature 6 °C."
For Sunday through to Tuesday, it added: "High pressure dominating into next week, bringing generally dry weather throughout with sunny spells. Mostly light winds but feeling cold with frost and fog overnight."
