Set in a large house in the fictional village of Crinkley Bottom, Mr Blobby was the show's comic relief, communicating only the word 'blobby' over-and-over as he crashed into everything around him. The show and Mr Blobby were hugely popular, and Noel Edmunds and his production company Unique looked to open a number of theme parks on the back of its success, Lancs Live previously reported.
The first of the Crinkley Bottom theme parks opened in the small Somerset village of Cricket St Thomas during 1994. Opening in a quiet and idyllic Grade I listed wildlife park, it did not going down well with some residents, being marred by controversy in its opening weeks.
Neighbours complained about excessive noise and English Heritage were concerned that the image of the Grade I listed estate was being spoiled by the attraction. But footfall told a different story.
