BBC EastEnders fans have 'proof' two huge characters will return from dead for 40th anniversary

Hot on the heels of this year’s explosive Christmas whodunnit storyline, EastEnders fans have high hopes for the soap’s 40th anniversary next year after several eagled eyed fans claim to have spotted proof that two characters will be returning from the dead. According to fans, Ronnie and Roxy Mitchell could be making a come back, despite having being killed off on screen! Of course, death has never been a barrier to other characters from returning, with Dirty Den Watts, Kathy Beale and Cindy Beale all having returned to the soap after previously being killed on the soap.
The speculation about Ronnie and Roxy returning comes after it was confirmed that Roxy actress Rita Simons would be joining the cast of rival soap Hollyoaks as matriarchal figure Marie. Sharing their theory online, one fan wrote: “Reminder that they both spent three years in rival soaps before being brought back from the dead… Ronnie and Roxy are back for the 40th anniversary..
mark my words.” A second fan also agreed as they echoed the theory and added: “I think they'll come back. Billy helped them fake it.” However not all fans were so convinced by the theory, especially since the pair were last seen on screen on New Year’s Day back in 2017.
In their final scenes on the show, Ronnie was about to finally get her happily ever after with Jack Branning as the couple prepared to tie the knot, but ahead of the nuptials, sister Roxy got drunk and in her stupor decided to take a swim that would ultimately prove deadly. After getting into difficulty in the water, Ronnie jumped into the pool to save her sister while still wearing her wedding dress, but the weight of the gown proved to be too heavy for her to stay afloat, and the pair sadly drowned together in
