EastEnders fans have been left cringing over Penny Branning's (Kitty Castledine) nickname for her dad Jack (Scott Maslen). Following her dramatic return to Albert Square, Penny has been referring to her dad as "Big Man Jack", something that fans have complained has left them feeling rather grossed out.
Taking to X, formerly Twitter, one viewer complained: "'Big man Jack' is not cute. It’s a really weird name to give your own dad.
#EastEnders." "Nah Penny is f****** annoying with that "big man jack" thing like what is that please gerra out #eastenders" added another, while a third penned: "Penny, PLEASE stop calling your own father 'Big Man Jack'... #EastEnders." And a fourth wrote: "'Big Man Jack' is what Jack would call his c*ck. Hella weird that his own daughter is calling him that #EastEnders" Fans may also be confused by Penny's seemingly affectionate nickname for her dad, considering an earlier episode saw her hint a bad relationship with him.
After Lauren (Jacqueline Jossa) made reference to her own father, Penny quipped that she knew all about having a bad dad, to which her cousin said that Jack wasn't so bad, leading Penny to reply that her spinal surgeon might not agree. Long-time viewers of the soap will likely remember a previous storyline that when Penny first appeared in the show back in 2008, it was revealed that she was left paralysed following a terrifying car accident. And it was later revealed that the crash was due to Jack's shady dealings as a corrupt police officer which led a drug lord to seek revenge.
