Despite concerns over his current injury, the 22-year-old was named in England’s squad for the country’s upcoming friendly with Australia and important Euro 2024 qualifier with Italy. When quizzed about Saka’s inclusion, England boss Gareth Southgate stated that he expected the winger to be ‘in contention’ to face City on Sunday.
City overcame Arsenal in the title race last season and the teams are separated by a single point ahead of the game at the Emirates Stadium, with Saka pivotal to the Gunners’ chances of recording a statement win. Speaking in his pre-match press conference on Friday, Arteta provided an update on Saka’s recovery.

“Well he is in contention. Let’s see how he progresses from here to Sunday,” Arteta said. “He had to leave the pitch. That's never good news but let’s see how he recovers.”
When pushed for further information on the nature of Saka’s injury, the Arsenal boss replied: “I leave that for the doctors.”
