An 81-year-old man has been released by police under investigation after another man was hit by a car in a horror crash on Hyde Road on New Year's Day.
Officers cordoned off Hyde Road (A57) in both directions after the collision on Monday afternoon (January 1), which is thought to have happened at around 4.55pm as a 62-year-old man was attempting to cross the busy main road.
The pedestrian was rushed to hospital from the scene with serious injuries, as an 81-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

In an update, Greater Manchester Police have confirmed that the driver has been released under investigation. Enquiries into the major crash are continuing by officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU).
Initial enquiries have suggested that the victim was walking on the north side of Hyde Road, walking towards Hyde, crossing the road before stopping in the central dividing lane.
At the same time, the Vauxhall Corsa is understood to have been travelling on Hyde Road towards Hyde before hitting the victim. The car was driven down the road before returning to the scene on the opposite side of the road.
On Monday night, Hyde Road was closed off in both directions, with a cordon put in place around the red car, that was parked up outside the Waggon and Horses pub.
GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward and are keen to speak to anyone who may have any footage, including dashcam, mobile phone footage from the area in the moments leading up to the collision.
