BREAKING: Child taken to hospital after being hit by a car

A child was taken to hospital after being hit by a car in Gorton.
The crash happened on Levenshulme Road, near the Ryder Brow train station, at around 8.45am this morning (Friday). Police and paramedics were called to the scene.
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police confirmed officers responded to a collision between a child and car. The child - whose gender or age has not been revealed - was taken to hospital with leg injuries.

The driver remained on the scene, the force spokesperson added. A stretch of the road was shut off for around an hour and half, with traffic and buses diverted away from the area.
A tweet posted by Stagecoach at around 9.20am said: "Routes 171/172. Diversion in both directions via Mount Road and Hyde Road. This is due to a Police incident on Levenshulme Road. Stops on Melland Road, Levenshulme Road, Highgate Crescent, Ryderbrow Road and Knutsford Road will not be served."
A further tweet at around 10.15am added: "Routes 171/172. Levenshulme Road has reopened so services will resume normal routes in the area."
