Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola will be absent from his side’s next two Premier League games following his back surgery, with Juanma Lillo set to fill the dugout in his place.
But who is Lillo? For starters, the Spaniard is effectively Pep’s right-hand man at City, the assistant coach of the first team squad.
The Spaniard has been a part of two of the Blues' Premier League titles and one Carabao Cup. The coach missed out on any involvement in City’s treble-winning campaign last season when he was Al Said manager in the Qatar Stars League.
Lillo replaced Mikel Arteta at City in 2020 when the latter left to take the vacant manager's role at Arsenal. However, before this Lillo had also taken roles as the head coach of some pretty notable sides.

The coach has managed teams such as Almería, Real Oviedo and Real Sociedad to name a few. He also coached former Barcelona midfielder and World Cup winner Andrés Iniesta whilst at Japanese outfit Vissel Kobe.
Remarkably, Lillo began his managerial career at his local club Amaroz KE at just 16 years of age in 1981 before moving on to Tercera División side Tolosa FC four years later.
He won his first promotion as manager aged just 24 during the 1988/89 season, guiding CD Mirandés to the Segunda División B and winning the league title in the process.
The coach really made a name for himself at the now-defunct UD Salamanca where he took the side from the third division of Spanish football all the way to La Liga. In the process he became the youngest-ever coach to manage in Spain’s top division (29).
