Standing proudly in the heart of residential Oswaldtwistle is a chip shop that has achieved heights only few in the region have managed. And as we found out, it's homemade fishcakes are to die for - with lashings of salt and vinegar.
Westend Fish and Chips, on Blackburn Road in the Lancashire town, has recently been quality accredited by the National Federation of Fish Friers - becoming one of only eight fish and chip shops in the whole of the North West to achieve the feat.
It's a proud moment for mother and daughter, Lesley and Deryn Regan, who own the chippy and have worked extremely hard to obtain the award.

"They check everything, how I do my fish, they check how I fry, all my processes in the shop," Deryn explained. "It's quite an intense programme. But it stands you apart. I think there's only eight in the North West - a few over in Blackpool, one in Cheshire, so this way there's only us and one in Chorley."
Not only are Lesley and Deryn proud of their achievements in the industry, but there’s also pride in the shop due to why it was opened in the first place. Deryn’s grandad was born and raised in Oswaldtwistle and was somewhat of a chippy connoisseur, reports Lancs Live.
Owner Deryn explained: "My grandad loved chippies, he always had done. Wherever we used to go when I was a kid, he knew where the best chippies were.
"It's kind of been a little drive of mine that I want to be that chippy that is the best. So when people need somewhere to go, they'll think, oh we'll go to Westend!"
