A Stockport road where a closure has caused traffic chaosis set to re-open on this weekend. Gas network firm Cadent closed Brabyns Brow in Marple on Tuesday night (September 5) to carry out emergency work to fix a gas leak.
Work initially began last week, but was suspended to allow the Tour of Britain cycling race to pass through the area. When work restarted earlier this week, Cadent said engineers discovered the roughly 100-year-old pipes 'were in need of immediate repairs on a larger scale than first thought'.
It meant they had to dig a huge hole in the road and completely close it between Arkwright Road and Winnington Road. Diversions are in place and it has resulted in long delays - particularly at rush hour.

In an update issued today (Thursday), the firm said the repairs had now been completed. Yet the hole still needs to be re-filled and needs to be done in stages. Bosses are hopeful they can re-open the road on Saturday afternoon (September 9).
Traffic management including temporary lights will still remain in place into next week as they carry out other repairs in the area.
Trevor Lubbock, Customer Operations Area Manager for Cadent, said: “First and foremost I want to thank the residents of Marple for their patience and understanding while we have been working to repair this escape.
"I know that there is never an ideal time for a road closure, but it happening when children returning to school really added to an already stressful week.
“I’m pleased to say that the repair has now
