Tony Mowbray has admitted that he wants to face Manchester City's Pep Guardiola to show that you do not need a 'sexy foreign manager' to be successful.
Mowbray's Blackburn Rovers side currently sit second in the Championship table as they push for promotion to the Premier League — and meetings with City and other big clubs.
Speaking ahead of Rovers' clash with Luton Town, Mowbray told the club's media: "I want to manage against Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp and prove you don't have to be a sexy foreign manager to achieve.
"I'd like to manage in the Premier League again.
"I truly believe you have to take a team up to manage there if you're a Championship manager.
"It can happen, but it's unlikely if you're a 58-year-old English manager."
Mowbray managed West Brom in the English top flight but his Baggies side finished rock bottom of the table.
The former Middlesbrough and Coventry City man's comments were made as Guardiola was nominated for January's Premier League Manager of the Month award following victories against Arsenal and Chelsea, as well as a point at Southampton.
City currently find themselves nine points clear at the top of the Premier League.
