Manchester City drawing with Southampton has opened the door for Liverpool and Chelsea to continue their own Premier League title charge — but only just.
That's the message from Liverpool great John Barnes, who admits Pep Guardiola and his star-studded team are still overwhelming favourites to win their fourth English crown in five seasons.
Having put together a staggering run of 12 straight wins, City were held by Southampton in their last fixture before the international break, but they still maintain a nine-point advantage over Jurgen Klopp's team.
Chelsea are a point further back while Liverpool — minus AFCON superstars Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane — can reduce the deficit to six points if they win their game in hand.
The two teams still have to meet in the Premier League at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday, April 9, too.
Barnes doesn't see City being pegged back by then, but feels there is still some hope for the chasing pack.
Speaking to Bonus Code Bets, the Liverpool icon said: "Manchester City didn't slip up against Southampton, they simply drew a game. They dropped a couple of points, which really cannot be classed as them slipping up. Nobody can expect them to go the whole season without dropping a point or two and Southampton are a good side."

Barnes added: "It's great that Liverpool beat Crystal Palace 3-1 in a difficult match, but Manchester City are still the favourites for the Premier League crown.
"However, the good thing about the Premier League is that any team can take points off another on any given day. Whilst nobody expects City to drop too many more points, it still gives Liverpool and Chelsea a chance to catch up with them."
