The Royal mother, who shares Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis with heir to the throne William, is expected to remain in hospital for ten to 14 days.
After that, it has been revealed that she will be out of action until after Easter and step down from royal duties while she recovers for three months at home.
The Princess of Wales was last seen in public 23 days ago on Christmas Day when she walked to church with the rest of the royal family. Also in December, the princess was busy hosting her annual carol concert at Westminster Abbey.
