It is one of Manchester's oldest and most prestigious hotels - and now The Midland has been hailed among the best in the UK for its traditional afternoon tea. The luxury hotel, on Peter Street, has been serving afternoon teas to customers for the past 120 years.
Now, The Midland's dedicated Tea Room has been recognised by public review site Tripadvisor as one of the best in the UK. The tea room has been named a 2023 Travellers' Choice award winner.
The coveted award celebrates businesses that have consistently received great public reviews on Tripadvisor over the last 12 months, placing these winners among the 10% of all listings on Tripadvisor globally. Recent reviews on the site include one from September calling it a "magical afternoon tea" while another wrote: "Would highly recommend to anyone that wants a special experience."

Afternoon Tea has been a staple at The Midland Hotel since its opening in 1903. Back then, they even used to serve it up on the roof of the hotel - when the panoramic terrace used to be used for the traditional sandwich and cake menu, although sadly this area is no longer in use.
Nowadays, the hotel boasts its own dedicated Tea Room at the front of the hotel on the ground floor looking out across the historic St Peter's Square. The venue only serves afternoon teas - and is known as a hot spot for "special celebrations" like birthdays with the team preparing around 30 celebratory plates a week.
