A brand new 'Strictly curse' is rumoured to be taking over London's Elstree Studio, which has resulted in an outpouring of complaints from viewers at home. On Saturday night, Coronation Street actress Ellie Leach and her professional partner Vito Coppola pulled out all the stops to give their audience a performance they'd never forget, as they opened the show with a high-energy Salsa.
Despite hardly missing a beat whilst they shook, shimmied and span to 1985's 'Copacabana' by Barry Manilow, the pair were subject to harsh criticism from the judging panel. Ellie and Vito received their lowest scores yet in the competition, leaving soap actress Ellie, 22, in tears, telling her partner she believed she'd "let him down".
Hundreds of viewers were quick to defend her performance however, believing the Wetherfield youngster had been "undermarked", with some slamming the judges for unfair scoring. "Ellie was undermarked Easily worth an 8.
That is all," one wrote online, whilst another agreed, "The judges don’t seem to consider how hard the routine actually is I think Ellie had quite a hard routine and still did remarkably well – she deserved more".
The duo's disheartening blow to morale comes exactly seven days after show-openers Nigel Harman and his professional partner Katya Jones kicked off Movie Week with a passionate Jive performance to the Batman theme music.
After previously impressing the judges in Week 1 and 2 however, actor Nigel also received similarly harsh criticism from the panel - consisting of Craig Revel-Horwood, Motsi Mabuse, Shirley Ballas and Anton Du Beke. Many viewers have now been led to believe that being the first performers to take to the dancefloor may bring with it some bad luck.
