A major search is underway today following reports of a man trapped in a vehicle in floodwater in Aberdeenshire.
Emergency services were alerted at around 3am on Friday morning, October 20, to the incident near Marykirk.
A Coastguard helicopter is currently at the scene along with other rescue agencies. Locals say the helicopter has been conducting searches along the River North Esk all morning.
The public has been urged to avoid the area due to a severe flood warning in place by the Scottish Environment Protection Agency.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 3am on Friday, 20 October, 2023, police received a report of a man within a vehicle trapped in floodwater near Marykirk.
"Multi-agency searches are ongoing and the public are asked to avoid the area for their safety.”
