Stockport's historic Underbanks continues to be a magnet for new bars and restaurants - from Neapolitan pizza spots to Caribbean-inspired bars. This December, it will welcome another venture into the fold.
Located beneath St Petersgate Bridge, opposite Queens Head pub, Stanley's is a brand new Victorian-inspired bar hoping to bring something a little different- to this historic stretch.
Opening its doors this Friday night, the concept has been dreamt up by Lyndon Thorpe, who after seeing the town's food and drink scene go from strength to strength, decided he needed to have a piece of the action. What has transpired is a bar and kitchen inspired by the past, but with plenty of modern flourishes.
Spread over two floors, the bar concept aims to be an intimate spot for people to come in and relax with drinks and snacks. Decorated in a Victoria style, with modern details, Lyndon hopes it will become a go-to for locals and visitors alike.

"Underbanks is an up-and-coming area and in the next five to ten years it's going to get even busier," explains Lyndon. "I just thought it was best to get in early, and on this historic street.
"I've worked in hospitality for 15 years, behind bars in social clubs, as well as Chinese restaurants and as a bar manager. I'm from Salford, but with all the regeneration to Stockport it seemed like a good time to get involved and open a bar.
"I wanted it to be like an old-fashioned pub, almost a bit like Peaky Blinders, but also with a modern vibe."
