A woman hit with a controversial 'bus gate' fine - having been led along the stretch by her sat nav amid roadworks - has claimed a 'victory over the big man' after it was overturned. Gaynor Richards says she feels 'vindicated' after an independent arbitrator sided with her over Stockport council.
Traffic was banned from driving along Heaton Lane, off the A6 in Stockport town centre last February, with the council beginning to issue fines the following April. The move has been dubbed a 'cynical money-making exercise' by some drivers who got stung after it was revealed it had generated almost £1m in fines in a matter of months.
The cameras are currently off while work is carried out on Stockport's new transport interchange and rooftop park. But they WERE operating when Gaynor, 58, was driving home from singing practice just after 10pm on September 21 this year.

Gaynor, from Bolton, had been at rehearsals with her choir at The Guildhall on the A6 Wellington Road South before she attempted to get on the M60 to drive home. She said her usual route back to the Pyramid roundabout - the only way she knows - down Exchange Street and Daw Bank, was closed due to work on a bridge connecting the new interchange to the train station.
Gaynor said there were no diversion signs, so she used her sat nav, which directed her down Heaton Lane. "I didn't see any signs telling me I couldn't go down there and nothing was stopping me," she told the Manchester Evening News.
"I did see the words 'bus gate' on a sign, but I had no idea
