A Dragon Market will take over Chinatown on Sunday for the first time ever - featuring a range of stalls from independent makers and local businesses.
Set up by April Kennedy, the founder of mobile coffee van business Vanoffee, the artisan markets will feature food, drink, gifts and more for people to peruse at the heart of the city’s thriving Chinatown. It is hoped it will draw more people to the area and to explore its local traders.
Taking place from 11am to 8pm within the Faulkner Street car park, the artisan markets will feature appearances from Vanoffee and their now infamous ‘doughnoffee’s’ - a doughnut filled with coffee or hot chocolate and chocolate spread - as well as the likes of Sunrise Patisserie, The Thai Food Van, Birchwood Pizza, Double T’s Rum, Erica Pham Art, and even the Jiggi mobile barber.

April, who has set the markets up under The Market MCR brand, says she hopes the premise will give people more reason to visit Chinatown and help support its many restaurants, bars and shops.
“It’s about offering something a bit different to the area,” April tells the M.E.N of the markets. “It feels like it would be a great place for a market. They do have stalls there during Chinese New Year and during events like the Moon Festival, but there’s a lot of potential there for something all year round.
