Scotland snow maps reveal chance of White Christmas for parts of the country

People in Scotland may wake up to snow on Christmas morning and the run-up to the big day, according to data from weather forecasters.
New weather maps from WXCharts have predicted snow depths of up to 30cm on Christmas Day, with areas in the Highlands predicted to be hit the hardest.
According to the forecasters, the snow is most likely to fall in the north of Scotland, in areas like Fort William and Inverness - but there's a chance it could appear as far south as Glasgow or Ayr.
The latest data from WXCharts shows a blanket of snow sweeping across Scotland on the evening of December 23.
And from midnight on Christmas Day, a separate snow depth chart shows that some of this snow is likely to stick around, especially when it comes to higher grounds in the north of the country such as Inverness, where it could lie as deep as 30cm as the day goes on.
In contrast, for the rest of the UK it appears the snowfall won't be as widespread, with bands of rain more likely to sweep across areas south of the border.
But according to the Met Office, we won't know for sure whether snow will fall this Christmas until closer to the time when it's easier to tell what will happen.
At the moment, the experts believe it'll be more of a rainy picture than a snowy one when it comes to the festive season this year.
However, all it takes for it to be classed as a White Christmas is one flake of snow to fall throughout the entire day - so even the tiniest amount of snowfall can count.
Long-range forecasts from the Met Office predict unsettled conditions and near-average temperatures for December, which for Scotland, is around 5C.
