The festive flick stars Cameron Diaz as Amanda and Kate Winslett as Iris, two career-driven women from opposite sides of the Atlantic Ocean. They're both looking to escape the throes of heartbreak with a Christmas getaway.
The pair decide to swap houses, with journalist Iris moving into Amanda's huge Los Angeles mansion, complete with swimming pool. Film producer Amanda makes Iris' stunning cottage home for the holidays.

The film, which is available to stream now with a Netflix or Amazon Prime Video subscription, also stars Jude Law and Jack Black. But it's the details surrounding Iris' pet dog - which appears to be a terrier mix - that's got viewers asking questions.
Taking to X, formerly Twitter, fans wondered why Iris left Amanda with her dog with absolutely zero care instructions. Others pointed out that the poor pooch isn't being fed or looked after in the film. @Heatherinaa vented: "I’ve tried watching The Holiday on multiple occasions and can’t because I can’t stop worrying about the fact Kate Winslet just UP AND LEFT HER DOG. Did Cameron Diaz get instructions? Is she taking care of the dog? It’s too much for me..."
@MumbrianSpinner tweeted: "After watching The Holiday (again), I have decided that I can forgive the cheese factor. I can see past Jude Law's tan, despite being a single parent in the UK in winter. But I can't grasp Iris' dog being left at her cottage at the mercy of scatty Diaz with no care instructions."
