Roxy Mitchell is back! EastEnders character returns to support struggling daughter Amy

Rita Simons is set to reprise her iconic character of Roxy Mitchell in some special scenes in Thursday's episode of EastEnders. Roxy's daughter Amy has been struggling with her mental health in recent weeks, exacerbated by the breakdown of her father, Jack Branning's, marriage, following the revelation of her step-mum Denise's infidelity.
As the family attend a group therapy session, Amy is encouraged to open up about her emotions surrounding the loss of her mum, who drowned alongside her sister Ronnie back in 2017. As she considers this Amy zones out of the session and it's then that Roxy appears as a figment of her daughter's imagination.
Discussing the iconic character's return EastEnders executive producer Chris Clenshaw said: "I’m thrilled to welcome the fabulous Rita back to the iconic role of Roxy Mitchell for these special scenes. Although the character was last seen on-screen in January 2017, Roxy still remains a fan favourite.
"We know our audiences will be thrilled at her short return as Amy seeks some all-important answers from her mum at this point in the storyline." Roxy last appeared on-screen in January 2017, with the character dying on New Year's Day. Rita, who exclusively introduced her boyfriend Ben to OK! earlier this year, previously returned to Albert Square in May 2019.
