Sunday morning on a quiet, pristine new-build estate saw families out walking their dogs, waking up for an 11am brunch - on a street swarming with police. Dozens of police officers, armed police, and crime scene investigators descended on Norfolk Street in Walkden at around 6.30pm on Saturday evening, November 4.
Greater Manchester Police said a 34-year-old man had been rushed to hospital after being shot and stabbed in a ‘targeted attack’. More than 12 hours later, officers remained at the taped off scene sweeping the street for evidence.
The man was left in hospital in a ‘serious but stable condition’ after suffering stab wounds and a ‘suspected gunshot injury’, according to the force. No arrests have yet been made – but police were combing the neighbourhood all morning and getting in contact with residents, with officers remaining outside one home in the area into the afternoon.

Police believe the incident was a ‘targeted attack’, which has left those who live in the near-new estate unnerved. A police cordon extended down the street with another section of police tape roping off two houses in particular.
GMP's Tactical Aid Unit were combing the area for clues, searching in manicured hedges and looking under cars. Crime scene investigators in white boiler suits were also on hand taking pictures and carrying out investigations.
“There’s been plenty of fireworks this weekend, so it was the perfect time to do whatever has been done,” said one man on an adjacent street, who says he was asleep when the incident took place.
