After months of speculation, Dancing on Ice appears to have finally found itself a new presenter, as Stephen Mulhern has “officially signed up” to front the show according to reports. With just days left to go until Dancing on Ice officially launches for 2024, a TV insider has revealed that Stephen has “signed up” to co-host the show, in the hopes of encouraging Holly Willoughby to return to present alongside him.
As many viewers will know, Holly Willoughby famously stepped down from her role presenting This Morning earlier this year, but uncertainty had still surrounded whether she would return to Dancing on Ice, a show she has been presenting for most of its 15 year run. Now, with her long term pal Stephen signed on to present, show bosses are hoping that a comforting and familiar face could be the encouragement Holly needs to return to the show for another year.
Speaking to The Sun, a source said: “Stephen has been the frontrunner to take Phillip’s spot for months but ITV is thrilled to now have him signed and sealed and ready to roll.” They then continued: “Stephen is hugely loved by viewers, is a consummate professional and as an added bonus has worked with Holly for decades - they both started out in telly together. The source then suggested that Stephen’s presence could be just the “comfort blanket” Holly needs.
OK! has approached Stephen and ITV for comment. If Stephen does take on the role of presenting Dancing On Ice, it would be far from his first attempt at doing so, as the star previously proved to be a firm hit with fans when he stood in for former host Phillip Schofield in February 2022 after Phil was suffering from Covid-19.
