Netflix Top 10: ‘Cobra Kai’ Season 5 Crosses 95 Million Hours Viewed as ‘The Crown’ Rises to No. 3

Selome Hailu “Cobra Kai” had an explosive debut on Nielsen’s weekly streaming rankings, racking up 1.7 billion minutes viewed between its Netflix premiere on Sept. 9 and the end of the viewing window on Sept. 11. It’s a significant feat not only because of the series’ ample bump past the one billion mark, but because it achieved that number in what ultimately became a historic week streaming. Nielsen’s Sept. 5-11 viewing window marked the first time four different streaming platforms have crossed 1 billion minutes viewed. In second place was the streaming debut of “Thor: Love and Thunder,” which was watched for 1.5 billion minutes upon arriving on Disney+ on Sept. 8, two months after its theatrical premiere. Netflix’s “Devil in Ohio” followed in third place with 1.4 billion minutes viewed after debuting as No. 5 last week.

Cobra Kai topped the Nielsen streaming chart for the week of September 5 to 11, as titles from four competing streaming services surpassed 1 billion minutes of viewing for the first time.

BreAnna Bell Ryan Murphy’s Jeffrey Dahmer series “Monster” overpowered the Netflix top 10 rankings this week, taking the No. 1 spot with 196.2 million hours viewed following its Sept. 21 premiere. During the Sept. 19-Sept. 25 viewing window, the 10-episode limited series knocked “Cobra Kai” Season 5 off of its pedestal and down to the third spot. Season 2 of “Fate: The Winx Saga” stayed at the No. 2 spot for the second week. The second installment of the fantasy series, which premiered on the streamer on Sept. 16, earned nearly 61 million hours viewed in its first full week of availability. The fifth season of “Cobra Kai” dropped in viewership during its second full week on Netflix. The show raked in 38.1 million hours viewed –– a drastic fall from the previous week’s 95.6 million hours viewed. Meanwhile, “The Crown” continues its run on the Top 10 list following Queen Elizabeth II’s passing. Season 1 featuring Claire Foy sits in fourth place with 25.7 million hours viewed while Season 2 came in at No. 7 on the list, earning 17.5 million hours viewed.

Netflix’s returned for its fifth season on September 9 and since then, the popular series has taken control of the No. 1 on the streamer’s top 10 list with no signs of slowing down.

The top 3 on the English TV list this week was rounded out by “Fate: The Winx Saga” Season 2, which debuted with nearly 49 million hours viewed, and “The Crown” Season 1, following closely behind with 40.8 million hours viewed after news of Queen Elizabeth II’s death.Other notable entries on the list included documentary series “Sins of Our Mother,” from director Skye Borgman, which debuted on the list with 24.4 million hours viewed, as well as “The Crown” Season 2, which marked its first entry on the list with 16.7 million hours viewed.

Following the release of the hit Netflix series’ fifth season with no Swank in sight, the speculation continues.
