‘Cobra Kai’ Creators Tease Possible Season 6 Delay, If Johnny Could Become A #GirlDad & More

In the latest fantasy streaming battle, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power retained a slim lead over House of the Dragon on Nielsen’s weekly streaming chart for September 12 to 18.

Jennifer Maas TV Business Writer “Cobra Kai” closed in on nearly 2 billion minutes viewed on Netflix in the first full week after its Season 5 launch on Sept. 9, as the streaming audience for Amazon’s “Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” and HBO’s “House of the Dragon” dipped, according to Nielsen’s newly released streaming rankings for the month-ago period. From Sept. 12-18, the first four episodes of “The Rings of Power” hit 988 million minutes viewed on Prime Video, while the first five of “House of the Dragon” landed 960 million minutes viewed on HBO Max. Meanwhile, “Cobra Kai” — which currently has five seasons and 50 episodes available for streaming on Netflix — was watched for 1.9 million minutes when counting viewership across the entire series, per Nielsen.

Netflix has been eager to expand its unscripted content. “We know our members love it. It’s a really exciting and growing area for us,” added Larry Tanz, VP of content for EMEA. Mentioning some recent successes from “Young, Famous & African” to “I Am Georgina,” both coming back for a second season, as well as new Spanish offering “Who Likes My Follower?”

Known for its surprise collaborative performances and world premieres, the iHeartRadio Festival crosses genres and formats. This year belonged to country stars, legacy acts and viral sensations. Featuring performances from Black Eyed Peas, Lionel Richie, Morgan Wallen, Diplo, Pat Benatar and Neil Giraldo, Pitbull, Sam Smith and the Black Keys, the action behind the scenes began to roll around 6 p.m. on night one, all leading into a 7:30 p.m. showtime.

Netflix announced the release date of the third season of the romantic comedy. Set and filmed in the provinces of Paris, including Ile-de-France, the series follows Emily Cooper, who lands an unexpected opportunity to provide an American insight for French luxury marketing company - Savoir. Emily - played by Lily Collins - initially struggles to adapt to the Parisian lifestyle, which is a different world to her Midwestern upbringing, as she tries to win over her new work colleagues, creating new friendships and tangling herself in a complicated love story.

Netflix's favorite foul-mouthed duo return in the first teaser for the final season of the dark comedy , which the streamer released during the Tudum fan event on Saturday. Christina Applegate, Linda Cardellini and James Marsden star in the twisty half-hour series from creator Liz Feldman, with the latter introducing the teaser for fans to enjoy.The video begins by rehashing the events of the previous two seasons, taking fans back to the beginning when Jen (Applegate) met Judy (Cardellini) after her husband was killed in a hit and run.

Molly Ringwald has joined the second installment of FX’s anthology series, from Ryan Murphy and Plan B, sources tell Deadline. Liza Foreman Backing a film in which Johnny Depp will play French King Louis XV is what Wild Bunch International head Vincent Maraval describes as part of the risk taking that is essential to this business. In a keynote interview with CAA Media Finance’s Roeg Sutherland at San Sebastian’s first Creative Investors Conference on Monday, Maraval discussed his 23 years in the business – failing to bet on “Black Swan,” but going for it with Depp’s first film since the Amber Heard trial.  “The film [“Jeanne du Barry”] is that sometimes we need to take a risk, and this risk is much higher,” said Maraval. “We are doing Johnny Depp playing Louis XV. People said don’t do a movie with him, but we liked it. I remember the discussion we had with the producer behind it who said: ‘Do you think we are doing something stupid?’ I said: ‘Probably, but what’s left if not?”

Jon Hurwitz, co-creator of Netflix’s Cobra Kai, is addressing and explaining if he’s part of the new film Sony Pictures confirmed to be coming out in 2024.
