And so [Raimi] said, ‘No, no, we still want to have the option to use him in a standalone Tobey movie.’”Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige told Entertainment Weekly in Feb.

Metallica announce winners of ‘For Whom the Bell Tolls’ marching band competition

Metallica have announced the official winners of their first ever ‘For Whom the Bell Tolls’ marching band competition. The band launched the contest last April, with over 450 US colleges and high schools applying to enter.Bands were challenges to create “their most exciting, unique and impressive performances of some of the band’s most beloved songs”, with the band supplying them with musical charts of songs including ‘Enter Sandman’, ‘Master of Puppets’, ‘Fade to Black’ and others. The band chose the winners themselves in a number of categories, based on the school age groups. The biggest winners, in the College (Division 1) category, were Auburn University in Alabama, who will receive $75,000 (£58,800) worth of musical instruments and gear for their school.Other winners include Eastern New Mexico University, Dobyns-Bennett High School in Tennessee, Boerne High School in Texas, Malverne High School in New York and Oakton High School in Virginia.Check out footage of Auburn University’s prize-winning halftime Metallica marching band show above.Earlier this month, the band’s frontman James Hetfield said that he would love somebody to create a microphone with a built-in straw.Speaking on the band’s in-house podcast The Metallica Report, he said: “Being able to maybe sip some water while I’m playing, you know, some kind of straw on the microphone…that could be cool.”Metallica will hit the road again in May 2024 for another leg of their M72 World Tour, for which they’ll play two nights in each city with two unique “no repeats” setlist and different support acts.

Listen to Sam Fender’s soulful new song ‘Iris’

Sam Fender has shared his soulful new song ‘Iris’, taken from the soundtrack to the new film Jackdaw. The track was debuted on Edith Bowman’s BBC Radio 2 Culture Club show yesterday (Tuesday January 9), and can be heard here from around the 38 minute mark, or below. The first new material from Fender following on his 2021 second album ‘Seventeen Going Under‘ – named as NME‘s Album Of The Year – was described by Bowman as “absolute perfection” in how it accompanies a touching scene in Jackdaw, which is set in Fender’s native North East of the UK.“He’s been away doing what he does and writing new things, and what’s absolutely wonderful is that he’s been incredibly supportive of fellow creatives – in the form of Jamie Childs the filmmaker, who’s about to release his first feature film,” said Bowman introducing the film.”She continued: “Jamie has worked across some brilliant programmes, directing things like Dr Who, The Sandman, His Dark Materials, and now he’s about to release his first feature film Jackdaw – which is set in the North East of England, which is where Sam is from.“They got in touch with Sam and said, ‘Do you fancy seeing if you’ve got anything around?’ and, lo and behold, Sam gifts them this track exclusively for the film – and it could not be more fitting.”The song leans on Fender’s soulful side, set to a stripped-back guitar backing as the North Shields artist tenderly sings of a woman navigating her way through hard times in the North East.Jackdaw is released in cinemas January 26 following a Stockton-On-Tees premiere on January 24.

Dee Snider criticises Metallica’s “self-serving” ‘No Repeat Weekend’ live shows

Twisted Sister has shared his thoughts on Metallica’s ‘No Repeat Weekend’ shows – labelling the concept as being “self-serving”.The glam frontman revealed his take on Metallica’s show structure during a recent appearance on the Shout It Loud Loudcast (September 2), and explained why he is against bands performing two completely different setlists at their shows. The discussion came in light of the metal veterans unrolling a ‘No Repeat Weekend’ structure for their ongoing ‘72 Seasons’ tour – meaning that when they play back-to-back nights in one location, they will perform two completely different setlists and have two different bands open the show each night. While this gives diehard fans a chance to see the thrash metallers break out some lesser-played rarities and provide two unique performances each night, Snider criticised the choice, saying it leaves the majority of the audience disappointed.“I wasn’t aware they were doing that, and credit to them. But I think it’s kind of self-serving and it really only appeals to a small percentage of the crowd,” he began (via Blabbermouth).
