Manchester United have reportedly been handed a transfer blow after showing interest in signing Brentford striker Ivan Toney.
The 27-year-old Bees forward is currently banned from footballing activities after admitting 232 betting breaches. However, the eight-month punishment is set to end on January 17 allowing Toney to continue his career in the new year.
Before his ban, Toney was in the form of his life and notched an impressive 20 Premier League goals last season. With question marks surrounding his form upon his return to football, there has been speculation as to whether another team will look to make a move for the Englishman in the winter window.

United have been linked with Toney in the past but according to the i newspaper, Brentford have no intention of selling their star asset and consider themselves to be in a strong position due to his contract running until 2025.
For this reason, the Bees have set an £80m price tag for Toney which is unlikely to be matched by United due to their budgetary constraints. Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea and Newcastle United are also believed to have shown an interest in the striker.
Elsewhere, United's hopes of signing Adrien Rabiot at the end of the season could have been squashed as well. Last month, reports claimed the Reds were still keeping a close eye on the Juventus midfielder due to him becoming a free agent in the near future.
But, Tuttosport understands the Frenchman will soon sign a new deal at the Serie A giants ending any speculation of him joining United.
