Manchester United could move for Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat if they sell Scott McTominay.
Amrabat, 26, is one of 10 midfielders United shortlisted as options to improve the quality of the squad depth in midfield but McTominay's future has been complicated by injury to Kobbie Mainoo.
Mainoo came off in the third minute of the 2-0 defeat to Real Madrid in Houston on Wednesday night and left the NRG Stadium on crutches, with his left foot in a protective boot.
United manager Erik ten Hag had accommodated Mainoo with Casemiro and Mason Mount in the starting XI, which indicated Mainoo had leapfrogged McTominay in the pecking order.

A move for McTominay depends on the severity of Mainoo's injury and whether United receive an acceptable offer. The club have valued McTominay at between £40million-£50m after West Ham expressed interest.
McTominay, 26, has two years left on his contract but West Ham are in the market for a new midfielder to replace Declan Rice and McTominay's agent, Colin Murdock, played under Hammers manager David Moyes at Preston North End in the late Nineties and early 2000s. McTominay's partner also resides in London.
Fred is free to leave United as they have already reinforced their midfield with the arrival of Mount. Fred, 30, has entered the last year of his contract and intermediaries are working on a move to Fulham. He is not expected to fly to the United States for the final leg of United's tour.
