Former Manchester United star Owen Hargreaves believes Sofyan Amrabat would be an excellent signing for Erik ten Hag, suggesting the midfielder and one more signing would complete an ideal Old Trafford transfer window.
United are interested in making a move for Amrabat, although only if enough funds can be raised from player sales. West Ham are keen on Harry Maguire and Scott McTominay while Fred and Donny van de Beek could make their exits.
More than £20million has been drummed up from the sales of Anthony Elanga, Alex Telles, Ethan Laird and Zidane Iqbal while Dean Henderson could more than double that tally should he move to Nottingham Forest.
United rejected a £20m bid from West Ham for Maguire but are still open to suitable offers, with the same applying for Anthony Martial. And player sales may be enough to facilitate an approach for Fiorentina pivot Amrabat. TNT Sports pundit Hargreaves waxed lyrical about the Moroccan when speaking to the Manchester Evening News, outlining why he would be a good back-up to Casemiro.

“It looks like Erik ten Hag is pretty clear on what he wants,” he said. “It looks like one or two midfielders might be leaving, whether that’s Fred or Van de Beek, but if they lose one of those then they need another body.
“Amrabat would be amazing. You could tell United were so different when Marcus Rashford and Casemiro didn’t play - Casemiro can’t play every game so having Amrabat, his physical profile is pretty unique.
“He’s like a one-man wrecking crew in there at times, especially at the World Cup. Amrabat would be a great addition to that midfield, adds a bit of athleticism but a good player as well.
